95th anniversary since the death of Noman Chelebijihan: public actions by “Emel” activists to honor his memory

Several public actions were prepared by “Emel” activists in this year to pay homage to the tragic history of the Crimean peninsula.

Nearly one thousand copies of the book “Kurultay in the year of 1917 as it was” (published in Russian) were distributed in areas of dense Crimean Tatar populations. It’s an essay of Mr.Yunus Kandym, a Crimean Tatar journalist, translated into Russian for the first time. It narrates about turbulent events of 1917-1918 and Chelebijihan’s role in Crimean Tatars’ fighting for liberation from tsarist regime and, after that, from Bolshevik oppression.

Flash mob and evening party devoted to history

A flash mob was organized by “Emel” in downtown of Simferopol on February 23, on the date of brutal killing of the Crimean leader by Bolsheviks. This peculiar action aimed to draw public attention to tragic events of February 1918.

On February 26, an evening party devoted to life path and work of Noman Chelebijihan was held by “Emel” in the Islamic Cultural Center (Simferopol), which was attended by nearly fifty young Crimean activists.

The core speaker at the party was Mr.Nariman Abdulvaapov, a lecturer at the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University. The visitors showed overt interest when listening to his story about Noman Chelebijihan’s personality and blossoming forth of Crimean Tatar intelligentsia in that time.   

The party was ended up with presentation of twenty minutes film about this greatest member of Crimean Tatar people. 

So, “Emel” has continued its vigorous action aiming to revive historic memory of Crimean Tatars and convey formerly enclosed information to broader public and young people in particular.
