Diplomatic iftar undertaken by the All-Ukrainian Association of Public Organizations (AAPO) “Alraid” was hosted in the evening, on June, 31, 2012, by a halal restaurant of Kiev. Invitations to the event were sent to ambassadors and consuls of Islamic states, well-known secular and religious persons, such as heads of Muslim religious communities and Muslim public organizations. Also, the iftar was visited by several Ukrainian political men, members of national communities, oriental scientists and several public activists concerned with Islamic issues. Guests of “Alraid” for Ramadan, sheikhs from University of Medina (Saudi Araia) and University “Al-Azhar” (Egypt) were also among the visitors.

In his salutatory address Dr. Bassil Mareei, “Alraid” chairman, thanked the audience for finding time and possibility in their busy schedule to come to visit this iftar, and wished blessings of the Most High to them and their families, acceptance of their fast and worship. He wished peace, prosperity and security to all the peoples on the Earth, and called the visitors to join his supplication to God about the people of Syria and Muslims of Myanmar, which have to live though horrible trial because of military actions launched against them. Also, there was presentation of a video-clip about Islam and Muslims in Ukraine, charitable projects of “Alraid”, and life of the Islamic Cultural Center in Kiev during the Holy month of Ramadan.
Diplomatic iftars in Ramadan days have been arranged by “Alraid” since the start of work, which are not merely “procedural events”. Instead, they encourage maintaining and strengthening of links with diplomats and officials for the benefit of Ukrainian Muslims and consolidation of all who have an influence on the fortunes of faithful Muslims in Ukraine and the adequacy of highlighting Islamic issues in mass media and analytical studies. Events like this offer scientists engaged in Islamic studies a great chance to get comments on vital issues from Muslims’ own lips.
After the sunset, fasting participants of the even performed collective fast breaking and collective prayer; a little bit later, at supper, there was informal discussion of problems and prospects of the Muslim community in Ukraine and beyond.
